In this fast world with so many distractions we are probably not in touch with ourselves and by that I mean we do not give time for our brain to wonder and think. Nowadays, a dopamine hit is so easy to obtain, just grab your phone and now you have an endless source of dopamine on your fingertips and our brain is probably fried because we don't give it the time to wander and think of different stuff
Great people:
Successful people like Bill Gates takes two weeks out of every year away from technology and society in a cabin in the woods where he reads and thinks. It is during these think weeks that he came up with various ideas for Microsoft.
I am no successful person but I do know that successful person do not waste time on instant gratification but instead many of them set aside some time for themselves to think and reflect.
A Harvard study found that people who spent 15 minutes on the end of the day to reflect what they have learnt, performed 23% better compared to those who didn't.
Advantages of thinking:
We know that there is value if we reduce social media time because it saves a lot of mental energy and time, which can be used to think and this would provide even higher value.
I practiced a journalling technique called 'dump journalling' where I would take a pen and paper and write down every thought that I would think of in my head until I needed to force some thoughts. That's when I stop the practice. After this practice I find that I had many new ideas revolving in my head.
If you have repeated thoughts in your mind which keep on popping out of nowhere then this process of relaxing by sitting down and thinking will surely help because then you will spend some time for that particular thought and may reduce mental garbage.
I used this relaxation by thinking technique to find more topics for my future blogs and it surely helps because when I devote some of my time to think of blog ideas I surely come up many meaningful ones. So this practice of thinking has surely helped me and surely it must help you too. Eg: If you are stuck in a problem(social,financial, work etc.) then take some time to relax and think about what can be done. Then you will see that you get various ideas on how that problem can be solved.
Note: in the above paragraph I have said that I come up with blog ideas while thinking but it's actually a type of relaxation for me because I do not do any type of physical work.
One important point to consider:
You may think that think act of sitting down and just thinking is not productive and may think of getting some real work done but it's not true because you usually give your brain to wander and relax and recover for the next task at hand.
How to practice this relaxation technique:
It's really simple just sit down on your chair or bed and just don't think of anything in particular just let your mind wander. You may also think of some work related task but beware they may tire your brain so do it in a controlled way.
