Compound effect: Why should you never underestimate the power of compounding.

Domino effect: 🁭🁯 Do you know about the domino effect? If you know about it, then we'll done if you don't then let me explain. So, in the book 'The One Thing' by Gary Keller. He mentions that " In 1983, Lorne Whitehead wrote in the American Journal of Physics that he’d discovered that domino falls could not only topple many things, but they could also topple bigger things. He described how a single domino is capable of bringing down another domino that is actually 50 per cent larger. " You won't understand the power of the domino effect by a simple definition so let me explain it to you. Consider a domino 2 inches tall. So according to the definition, a domino can bring down another domino which is 50 percent larger. So the 2-inch domino can bring down a 3-inch domino and the 3-inch domino can bring down a 4.5-inch domino.  It's a geometric progression and you will be surprised to know that the 17th domino can topple a domino almost the size of the L

The best way to start building habits

This may be a short but useful post.

Let's start with a story......
There were two guys who wanted to build a habit of going to the gym and exercise.

Let the names of the two boys be Lance and Joey.

Lance is very motivated to create a new habit of going to the gym and exercising. He imagines the six packs he will have after a few days. He searches some workout in YouTube and then goes to the gym.
Lance goes on to do a 2 hour long workout and comes home feeling very tired. Lance now feels so tired that he orders food from a restaurant and rests in his bed all day.

Next day, Lance wakes up from sleep with an extremely sore body so he decides to not go to the gym and take a rest day that day.

Day 3 and still Lance is a bit sore and decides he will go to the gym tomorrow.

Day 3 and this day Lance goes to the gym feeling refreshed but still a bit sore. Lance again does a 2 hour long workout. Now, Lance can't even move his body and decides to give up because exercising is very hard. In this way Lance never made the habit of going to the gym and exercising and even destroyed his dream of having a six pack.

Joey also is highly motivated to go to the gym and exercise but Joey does not do a 2 hour long workout because he knows that he will be sore the next day and he won't be able to build his habit.

Lance goes to the gym and just does a 20 min long body weight workout and returns home. He feels fresh and not extremely tired or sore.

Day 2, unlike Lance who was too sore. Joey feels fresh and strong and goes to the gym again and hits a 20 min long workout again. After the workout he returns to his home.

Day 3 and again Joey goes to the gym and exercises.

Slowly and slowly, Joey builds the habit of exercising and he now hits a 1 hour workout everyday and has his dream body. He has also built the habit of going to the gym everyday.

This story might has given you an insight on how to build habits.

How to build habits?

Habits can't be built in a day just like Rome was not built in a day. You must start small and be consistent and slowly and slowly you will see that , that particular task has become a habit.

Similiarly if you want to build a habit of reading books don't just go ahead and start reading 50 pages a day. Start small. Aim of reading 2 pages everyday and slowly and slowly you will have built up the habit of reading books.

Conclusion:

So here's my advice on how to build habits-
Start small and do it consistently, over time you will have built up a habit.
